SOUTH INDIA COMMUNITY STUDY

The South India Community Study (SICS) is an interdisciplinary research study—managed by Dr. Kaivan Munshi (Economics) and Dr. Nancy Luke (Sociology)—that aims to understand the intersection of social networks and the prevalence of tuberculosis in rural India. The goal of this study is to understand how social networks can be enhanced to improve the delivery of TB medication to patients and prevent the spread of the disease.

As part of a team of seven researchers, I helped to design the survey instrument that was to be administered in randomly selected rural villages in the Vellore District of Tamil Nadu, India. I pre-tested the survey questionnaire for validity in several villages and used findings from the pre-test to refine the final survey instrument.
