CULTURAL
CONSULTANT (INDIA)
Since 2012, I have served as a cultural consultant for Brown University's Institutional Review Board (IRB). The mission of the IRB is to review and approve all research and related activities--proposed by researchers at Brown University--involving human subjects. In doing so, the IRB prevents unnecessary risk and harm to research participants.
In this role, I serve as a cultural expert, reviewing protocols for research conducted in India. My main role is to ensure adequate protection of human research subjects by: 1) identifying potential issue areas that may emerge while conducting the research in India, 2) evaluating potential risks and benefits to research participants, and 3) providing recommendations to researchers and IRB staff so that protocols meet the IRB standards.
